Rectangular Arrangement Facing Outside

Seating Arrangement: Arrangement is the positioning of things, persons, etc. in a particular order. Seating arrangement is the manner in which people are arranged to sit around a table, in a row etc.

Rectangular Arrangement - Facing Outside: In a rectangular arrangement, persons are arranged around a rectangular or a square table, according to certain conditions. Here we are discussing the arrangement in which all the people are sitting around a rectangular or a square table facing outside or opposite to the centre of the table, or certain objects placed in a rectangular or a square order with their faces opposite to the centre. In rectangular or a square  arrangement when the persons are facing opposite to centre  Right means Clockwise Direction and Left means Anti-Clockwise Direction

Illustration: Eight persons-P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W are sitting in the square table facing outside. Four persons are sitting in the middle of the table while four persons are sitting at the corner of the table.

T sits at the corner of the table. U sits opposite to T. P and U are sitting adjacent to each other. Q sits at the corner of the table but not adjacent to P. W sits adjacent to neither T nor U. Two persons are sitting between S and W. S sits adjacent to either T or P. R sits second to the left of S. V is not an immediate neighbour of W.

Question: Who among the following person sits third to the right of T?

A.  V                                                                         B.The one who sits immediate right of Q

C.The one who sits immediate left of U                   D.The one who sits third to the left of W

E.All of the above

Answer: A

Solution: According to the first statement it is given that T sits at the corner of the table. U sits opposite to T, They are shown in the figure I

Figure I

P and U are sitting adjacent to each other. There are two possibilities that either P is sitting to the left of U or P is sitting to the right of U. They are shown in Figure II and III

Figure II

Figure III

In the next statement it is given Q sits at the corner of the table but not adjacent to P. So according to the figure II the possibility is shown in Figure IV and according to Figure III the possibility is shown in Figure V

Figure IV

Figure V

In the next statement it is given that W sits adjacent to neither T nor U.  So according to the figure IV the possibility is shown in Figure VI and according to Figure V the possibility is shown in Figure VII.

Figure VI

Figure VII

In the next statement it is given that Two persons are sitting between S and W. S sits adjacent to either T or P. So according to the figure VI the possibility is shown in Figure VIII and according to Figure VII the possibility is shown in Figure IX.

Figure VIII

Figure IX

In the next statement it is given R sits second to the left of S. So according to the figure VIII the possibility is shown in Figure X and according to Figure IX the possibility is shown in Figure XI.

Figure X

Figure XI

In the next statement it is given that V is not an immediate neighbour of W but in figure X the only place vacant where V can be placed is immediate to W so it is eliminated and Hence on placing V in figure XI we get

So, according to the figure we see that V sits third right to T . Hence the correct option is A.
